Dell’s XPS 15, meanwhile, is our gold standard of moderate mainstream notebook performance – which we received with a 5 th-generation Intel Core i5.Īs you can see, the gap is massive. The Microsoft Surface 3, Intel Compute Stick and Acer Aspire Switch 10E are the three most recent systems we’ve reviewed with an Intel Atom processor. All you have to do is look at this graph. The issue with Atom, and its recent Pentium and Celeron branded cohorts, isn’t difficult to understand. The chips are now sold under the Pentium and Celeron brands, as well as Atom. Its most recent incarnation is code-named Braswell, and it will be succeeded by Cherry Trail around the end of 2015. Intel continued its development, simultaneously expanding it for notebooks and attempting to combat ARM in smartphones and tablets (with little success). The category collapsed, and was dead by 2012.īut Atom didn’t go away. They were cripplingly slow, and too cramped for most. These 10-inch computers were much more affordable and had better battery life than larger alternatives. MIDs never took off, but the Atom did found a home in the netbook, which became a fad in 2009. Recently, systems we’ve received with it have ditched the brand, instead opting for a simple “Intel Inside” logo. Intel’s brand name carries weight, but Atom does not, and those who know what it means stay away. If you’re not well versed in processor technology, you may not understand what Atom is, or where it came from. They’re so slow, in fact, that they poison the well of PC usability, and send users fleeing. These notebooks can win at pricing limbo only because they use low-cost Intel Atom processors, which are far less powerful then the mainstream Core line-up. Seems like a deal, right? That depends on your tolerance for frustration. For half the price of an iPad Mini 4, you can take home a fully functional Windows 10 PC. The list of Amazon’s best-selling notebooks is dominated by inexpensive systems that sell for $500 or less, and several best-sellers are priced below $200. Fitbit Versa 3Ĭomputers have become absurdly cheap.

The included mutes are of both the wedged and handle designs, granting you versatility. This tuning hammer measures 11.8 inches and has a thick wooden handle for maintaining a solid grip, while the shaft is made of stainless steel. For those with piano-tuning experience, these extra tools offer a way to get further involved with your piano maintenance and get more precise with your tuning craft. Not only does this kit have the standard tuning hammer and mutes, but it comes equipped with a tuning fork, two screwdrivers, tweezers, and an additional metal hammer of a smaller size. Its nickel-plated steel shaft gives the tool added durability, ready for long-standing use.īuy Schaff Piano Tuning Hammer and Mute Kit $42.90 3. The hammer is 12 inches in length and has a curved, wooden handle for increased comfort and support. This kit doesn’t go beyond the basics, but thanks to the craftsmanship of the tuning hammer and the provided selection of rubber mutes (wedged or with a handle), you won’t need more than this to care for your instrument. Schaff has been manufacturing piano tools since 1938 and has earned a reputation for dependability. Pros: Professional quality that is suitable for beginners.īuy MiriamSong Professional Piano Tuning Kit $44.99 2. We also love this kit for its neatly organized carrying case. When it comes to mutes, this kit has variety: three rubber wedge mutes, one rubber mute with a handle, one felt mute, and a clamp. The hammer’s handle is crafted from wood, giving you a solid, sturdy grip that won’t tire out your hand. The hammer is 12.5 inches long and is designed with a star-shaped head, which allows for universal use across piano tuning pins. If you’re new to piano tuning, this is the kit to start with. No matter your experience level, these tools – and their accompanying instructions – can help you restore your instrument’s sound when splurging on a professional tuning technician is not an option. Tweezers, screwdrivers, and a second, smaller hammer are additional accessories that those operating on a more professional level will find helpful to any maintenance routine. Once you’ve grown comfortable with the essential tools, you may seek kits that include mutes of varying textures, handles, or clamps, depending on which is most comfortable for you to maneuver between the strings of your instrument. Levers typically measure from ten to fourteen inches, and anything longer than fourteen inches may be difficult to maneuver within the instrument. Additionally, hammers with a longer lever are preferable when it comes to making small adjustments with the tuning pins. Since piano tuning is a lengthy process that requires repetitive motions and great attention, you want to make sure that the hammer is built out of comfortable material and that the shape lends itself to an easy grip. The tuning hammer is the focal point of the kit. Whether you’re searching for a just-the-basics kit to get started or something with a few more added accessories, the best piano tuning kits should include a tuning hammer for making adjustments to the piano’s tuning pins and rubber (or felt) mutes that can be placed between unison strings so that each string can be individually tuned. Since most piano manufacturers suggest that you tune the instrument twice a year at the very minimum, purchasing a piano tuning toolkit for your own use at home saves money and encourages more frequent tuning checks. However, regularly tuning your piano is essential for upkeep and just good maintenance (not to mention keeping your keys sounding great). It’s no secret that having your piano tuned professionally can get expensive. We’re not heading into spoiler territory here, don’t worry, but the Shibuya Incident Arc all revolves around a plan to seal away Goto, spearheaded by Gojo and his new cursed alliance. Some Dairy Queen locations also offer a deal for a complete breakfast for as little as 3. However, the Filet-o-Fish is so much more than a combination of unlikely ingredients, thanks to one important element: The steamed bun. Made with a minced puck of Alaskan Pollock, puzzlingly topped with a half-slice of American cheese that defies the laws of science by melting in the areas where it comes in direct contact with the fish, but remaining mysteriously solid and firm elsewhere, and drenched in what can sometimes be a veritable RIVER of creamy tartar sauce, the Filet-O-Fish is never going to win any beauty contests. Look, when evaluated strictly line-by-line, in a comparison of ingredient quality, innovative recipes, or preparation, the Filet-O-Fish falls short by almost every metric.
